FAQs
1. Are you accepting new clients?
Yes! I currently have morning, afternoon, and early evening availability. Please feel free to reach out to see if our schedules align.
2. Are you a psychotherapist?
Yes and no! While I hold a masterās degree in clinical mental health counseling and am a licensed psychotherapist in the US (Massachusetts, to be exact), my credentials are not recognized in the Netherlands, and I instead practice as a counselor here.
3. Whatās the difference between a psychotherapist and counselor?
In the US, Iām a licensed therapist, which means I completed graduate training, thousands of supervised clinical hours, provide mental health diagnoses, and Iām regulated by a state licensing board. In the Netherlands, the title āpsychotherapistā is regulated differently, and Iām not licensed under the Dutch healthcare system. So here, I donāt practice as a licensed psychotherapist; instead, I work as a counselor, offering therapeutic support. However, Iām still using the same evidence-based approaches, clinical judgment, and therapeutic skills Iāve used for years. Our work is confidential, structured, and focused on your goals and well-being.
The biggest difference is mostly legal and administrative. Because of licensing restrictions, I donāt diagnose or provide treatment under the Dutch healthcare system, nor are sessions with me covered or reimbursed by Dutch health insurance.
4. Do you only support clients with eating disorders?
No! While eating disorders and disordered eating are my primary area of focus and expertise, they are not the only concerns I provide support around. I have extensive experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal relationships, communication issues, family challenges, and life transitions. Please donāt hesitate to reach out if youād like to work with me but arenāt seeking support with an eating disorder.
5. Will you help me lose weight?
No. I am a weight-neutral, Health At Every Size provider, and while your body may change as a result of working to heal your relationship with food, I will never prescribe weight loss as a treatment plan for any of my clients. You might begin counseling not fully ready to change your behaviors or give up your pursuit of weight loss - and thatās totally okay. Iāll be ready to meet you where youāre at while still providing education on the harms that diets can cause.
6. Okay, so we can still work together even if Iām not ready to stop dieting or commit to eating disorder recovery?
Absolutely! I want you to show up to the counseling space authentically and be fully on board with any goals we set. While I wonāt recommend interventions designed to support dieting or intentional weight loss, we can work together to explore your relationship with food and your body and figure out a path forward that feels sustainable for you. I strongly believe that recovery is not linear or āone size fits all,ā and I work collaboratively with my clients to identify what recovery looks like for them specifically.
7. What locations do you practice in?
My practice is fully virtual, which allows me to work with clients located anywhere in the Netherlands. If you are located in a nearby country and are interested in working with me, please contact me to see if this is possible. Even if itās not, I can provide you with referrals for other providers you can work with.
8. What is your fee and payment policy?
My fee for an intake session is ā¬150 and ā¬125 for ongoing 45-minute sessions. Payment is due at the time of the appointment. I use a secure electronic medical record system that stores your card information, making for easy payment!
9. Do you offer sliding scale or reduced rates?
Yes ā I never want cost to be a barrier to your recovery. If you need support but are not sure that my full fee is feasible for you, please reach out to me and Iād be happy to discuss a reduced rate.
